On 'Save Kedah before PAS destroys it'
James Wong: I am one of the non-Malays who voted for PAS in the last general election in 2008. Like everyone else, I was just frustrated with Umno’s style in BN.
The vote for PAS is not because I like PAS, but was intended to teach BN a lesson.
I remember PAS used the slogan ‘PAS for All’ and I was happy to hear that PAS, DAP and PKR formed Pakatan Rakyat.
But after one and a half years, I realise that PAS has betrayed the non-Malays in Kedah and their team members of Pakatan Rakyat.
Maybe it is the fault of DAP and PKR for not standing up against PAS’ racist policies such as the increase of bumi quota for housing to 50% and the recent pig slaughterhouse issue.
The price of pork is increasing and PAS is making things worse. I agree with the above headline and the idea by Gerakan Youth leader Tan Keng Liang for PKR and DAP to work with BN.
I still don't like Umno but now, I hate PAS. PAS is like an Umno in Pakatan Rakyat only worse. PAS is betraying the non-Malays in Kedah and treating us like fools with all their policies.
P Dev Anand Pillai: To an extent, I do agree with what the writers had said as I am a frequent visitor to Alor Setar and I find that the town can do with some cleaning up.
The PAS government has to be able to come up with solutions that the people of Kedah have been looking forward to all this while.
One of the main things which they should learn is to attract investment into the state. If the PAS- led government is not able to do this, then they should be shown the door come the next general elections.
One should take as a guide the short stint which the Pakatan government of Perak had before it was ousted ecause the PAS-DAP collaboration there worked well.
They managed to reduce the state's debts and forged collaborations with interested foreign parties who wanted to invest if red tape and corruption could be reduced.
Besides stressing on religion, PAS should start putting its efforts on building an economic think- tank that will be able to advise them on the economy when they govern states.
Extreme policies and measures will ensure that the people will react by booting them out of office the next time around. The power of the vote is now more better valued.

On Kedah PKR, DAP told to abandon PAS
Fairus Hazli: I am a Malay in Kedah but the type of administration by Kedah under PAS really put us Malays in a difficult situation.
We don't really need PAS with their extreme policies.
Even the bumi quota which was increase from 30% to 50% is ‘killing’ the Malay contractors as there are now less housing projects in Kedah. That means less sub-contract jobs for us.
I hope that this can be highlighted to Anwar Ibrahim who will request ask PKR to step in before PAS destroys the whole of Kedah.
Suresh: Pakatan Rakyat is going to lose in the next general election if PAS still controls Kedah.
The Indians in Kedah get nothing and no assistance from the Kedah government.
Even after Manikumar given a post of exco following his Bukit Selambau win, the Indian community is being left out.
I salute Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang’s idea that PKR and DAP should work with BN.
But PKR and DAP must be given a main role to play in the Kedah government.
Inteersting indeed. I'm not trying to defend PAS here but just merely trying to recall one article I read in MT about how the different the state PAS are from each other even though they are from the same party. The ones that we hear always is Kelantan PAS. Even the Terengganu PAS have different opinions with the Kelantan PAS. Well, that's what I read and I won't claim that it is true. But looking at different point of view, Perak was once run by a PAS MB, apart fron the initial drama after 8Mar08, Nizar seem to have done a decent job in Perak.
Then again, what can a state do when their finances are severely restricted by the federal government? They can't do much. No money, no talk. And Kedah does not have that much of money. Remember what they did when Terengannu went over to PAS?
The Kedah PAS might be a bunch of goons for all I know. I support change. All hope is lost for Pakatan if PAS pulls out.
I have repeated many times, PAS cannot by themselves take over the Federal Government. They need partners, and these partners need each other. No one can claim that they are more important that the other, because if that happens, it would be just like what it is now... UMNO ruling over the others.
'DAP, too, treating us like fools'

‘As a DAP member, I feel that not only PAS is treating people in Kedah as fools but also the DAP. Obviously, DAP is asked to keep quite all the time in Kedah’.
On 'PAS treating us like fools'
David K: It is interesting to read the comment about 'PAS treating us like fools' in Kedah and other articles in the last few days about the arrogance of PAS in Kedah.
As a DAP member, I feel that not only PAS is treating people in Kedah as fools but also the DAP.
Hadi Awang proposed to form a unity government with Umno. It was done without DAP's knowledge. Where is the respect by PAS to DAP?
If we see Kedah, DAP’s sole party assembly person, Lee Guan Aik, has not been given any position in the state exco or any significant role in state policy decision-making.
Obviously, DAP is asked to keep quite all the time in Kedah. DAP has fail to stand up for the non-Malays in Kedah. And PAS is dominating Kedah at the expense of DAP's integrity.
If this continues, then DAP might as well team up with PKR and BN to administer Kedah (as was proposed by Gerakan's Tan Keng Liang)
I am not going to comment about PKR much but I feel that PKR has also failed to standup for the people in Kedah.
Proud Kedahan: Some voted for BN in the last election and some voted for PAS. PAS won the state.
PAS increased bumi housing quota in Kedah to 50% and someone says this is being racist.
Now, being a Kedahan, that person must know that the Chinese and Indians make up less than 50% of the population of Kedah (less than 30% actually).
Now, what all the non-Malays who are not from Kedah and who do not reside here but virtually have a monopoly on house ownership in the state?
The whole idea is to put pressure on housing developers to build houses so that real Kedahans might actually have a chance to buy one (price-wise).
The non-bumis in Kedah will have more than the number of units that they can buy without any restrictions. Why the hate?
Pork is not the only meat that is increasing in price. It’s all about a monopoly by certain group of people.
I voted for PAS because I believe in the principles that they adhere to - not because I was mad at BN. I’m a voter at Kubang Pasu.
Wahid: I share the same view as the writer who said ‘...the type of administration of Kedah under PAS really put us Malays in a difficult situation’.
PAS should not manipulate Islam to champion their own selfish political agenda. Modern Muslims in Kedah are not stupid
Jangan PAS cuba pertaruhkan nama Islam untuk agenda politik PAS.
