Dear Tun

Posted by Simon Templar On Monday, July 20, 2009

Dear Tun M,

I hope that this open letter reaches you in the pink of health.

(I am writing this letter in a casual manner and I hope that you will excuse my ignorance of protocols here).

I have always, among my friends and relatives, openly declare that I am a ‘Tun supporter’. I may be but two fifth your age but I pride myself with the knowledge of your personal development from Lorong Kilang Ais to The Mines Resort. As an urban resident, without you Tun, there will not be the luxury and comfort that we are able to enjoy today. But many shallow Malaysians take this for granted.

Many do not agree with your actions and policies implemented during your tenure as our Prime Minister. They are wrong. They are ignorant. There are merits in your every policies. What the general public does not understand is that to move the country forward, there will have to be sacrifices.

I do not fault you for implementing policies that benefit the Malays. Anyone who calls you a racist is a nincompoop. They only need to look at your circle of friends and confidantes to know the truth. To carry the nation forward, the Malays being the largest population of our nation has to be made the catalysts. And hence your policies to improve the Malays financially, economically and socially. Fine by me.

But I know, and you know, that regardless of how noble your plans and policies are, they did not work. And this isn’t going to change. Instead, a group of monstrous, greedy and corrupted Malay elitists have been created. The true Malays, the general Malays, are falling further and further behind by the day.

The Malaysian Chinese will never be affected by whatever policies the government of the day implements - they are excellent survivors. And oh how you envy them.

The Indians have been poor and will continue to be poor. And so are the non-Malay bumiputeras.

Tun, it is now time to re-evaluate your Grand Plan.

UMNO is now an incurable disease. I know that you know that. And I know that you know that you are helpless in trying to rectify the situation. UMNO will not change from within - not with its spread of long evil tentacles springing from the top echelon down to the warlords and little ketua-ketua at the so-called grassroot level. Is there really such a thing as the ‘grassroot supporters’ of UMNO today anyway?

UMNO is killing the Malays. And along with that the rest of Malaysians. To help the Malays and all Malaysians, UMNO will now have to be the sacrifice.

Malaysia is now a failed state.

The people no longer trust the BN Government.

The people no longer trust the Police Force.

The people no longer trust this… apa nama… MACC.

Hope is a key component of life. Security or the very sense of it is a key component of life. I shudder to think what Malaysians who have lost these two elements of life are capable of doing. I was at the Kelana Jaya Stadium yesterday for the Justice for Teoh Beng Hock Solidarity Gathering. I am afraid that UMNO has awaken the ‘don’t get involved’ Chinese. I hope I am wrong for the Chinese have numbers. And the Chinese have the money to get much to be mobilised. And if that is true, then a perfect storm is brewing.

To top that, Malaysians know that the general election is not fair. Let’s add ‘The people no longer trust the Elections Commission’. UMNO via BN will continue to rule Malaysia because our elections are not fair. I hope Malaysia as a nation can survive until the next general elections. I fear that desperate Malaysians will do a Bangkok? I fear that Malaysia will end up being a Pakistan. A Bangladesh. A Myanmar. But if this does happen, can you really fault these fellow Malaysians?

Tun, you can help us red blooded Malaysians make a difference. Please help us return the country to us.

Will you help us topple UMNO, please?

Will you help us establish a two party system in Malaysia, please?

There is no need for you to be a part of Pakatan Rakyat. That will be quite a challenge. You will have your ways should you choose to.

The fall of UMNO today will not be the end of UMNO. It will be the beginning of a new UMNO. A real UMNO baru. One which you vision. And with that, we will put UMNO back in government again.

But Tun, we need you on the side of the rakyat now. You will make the difference. And that will be your ultimate legacy to Malaysia.

Warm regards,

Simon Templar of Salt, Pepper ANd a little Kicap

  1. Da Maniac Said,

I admire your faith you have in that old man. Try that he can, I think the jokers in UMNO has tasted wealth and have too much blood on their hands to allow any attempt to topple UMNO from within. Difficult task it may be, but if there are enough noble UMNO members out there, change can happen from within.

I too was at the Kelana Jaya Stadium and was surprised to see so many there, Malay, Indians, and a bing number of Chinese too. I dare say that a big number of them are not members of any political party. And to think that the Chinese are the ones that usually don't want to rock the boat too much, perhaps the case of Teoh B.H. has awaken the sleeping dragon from it's peaceful slumber.

  2. Unknown Said,

Yes, to save malaysia, unmo must be out of ruling government at least 2 terms, then unmo can reform, just like guomingtang of taiwan.

  3. Neo Said,

    - I think Tun Mahathir is the best PM in malaysia.
    - Anyone want to rule malaysia, must be strong/has vision/educated/hard hitting/rule with iron fist. He is the one.
    - His GREATEST mistake was to apppoint BADAWI as his successor.
    - His 2nd mistake was to separate our judiciary system to common law and shariah law!!!
    - Now that he is retired, i compare him to SIMON COWELL.. very direct and critise everything under the sun

  4. Mark Said,

His GREATEST mistake was appointing Badawi?? Now there's a first...

I would have thought that his biggest mistake was getting the judiciary answerable to the executive. The cornerstone of any succesful civilisation would be to have a fair an impartial judiciary system (Singapore is an exception to this rule, but that's another story). For it's only through an impartial judiciary that the executive would be accountable for their actions (or in our case our govt's inactions). He may not have brought us to this road of ruin be he certainly did lead us by the nose to said road. In the end, Mahathir only serves Mahathir's interest.

Trust him if you will to restore order in this country. I, however will only trust him as far as I can throw him.

  5. Neo Said,

    Mark,

-Getting Judiciary answerable to the executive would have been his greatest mistake no. 3 for him (together with the sacking of the judges)

-if you read my earlier post on 'Badawi 'the worst PM ever', i have already explain that he DID nothing at all.

-under Badawi rule, UMNO got so arrogant, they think akin to white supremacy, their skin is whiter than white. or to muslim fundamentalist, they are more islam than the arabs.

    - never before, after independent that the non-malay swing so much to the opposition. It only happen during Badawi time.

    Merits my foot!
Name me one country which succeeded on a long term basis by eliminating the checks and balances of the executive.

That is why we went of course. No control system.

U deserve a SPaNK for posting that!

  8. Nehemiah Said,

No, no , no. We don't need another UMNO baru or Pakatan Baru. Are you so blind as to think that a change in parties, institutions can chnage Malaysia?

Malaysia has two options now: We need a deep national crisis to bring out a real, genuine leader to help the country move out of its race-based, corruption-based politics.

The alternative is a fake leader like Obama who will speak charismatically about change and adiopt policies that slowly, deceptively destroy the nation over the long term.

  9. Unknown Said,

The Old boys just need to let the new GEN X take thier seats, they don't realise that we're not as STUPID as they think we are!!!

    Vision3030

  10. Unknown Said,

Tun Should now develope a GEN X team to fulfill vision 2020 & move on to 3030.

  11. Da Maniac Said,

Well... after what the old man wrote on his blog today.... I dread to think how things would be if he decides to 'take over' UMNO.

My point of view Simon... race-based politics should be done away with. UMNO, MCA, MIC and their other kuci-mayang component parties should all be dissolved and start a new as ONE party. Same goes for PKR, DAP, PAS... move away from public perception that these parties too are drawn along the lines of race. Dissolve altogether and become ONE!

  12. The dragon remains asleep. At most the dragon will flee. I am one of those considering building a permanent life outside of Malaysia.

I admit I am a coward for doing so. But which rationale person would want to fight against such overwhelming odds when there are countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and even the US that welcome us with open arms? Why risk our children future in a failed state like Malaysia?

Every month or so, I will get updates from my friends on them moving overseas. Quite a few of my Ivy League educated Malaysian friends with MBAs are building their career in New York and California, a couple of my undergraduate friends are enjoying building their life in Australia. And a whole boatload of my school friends are working in Singapore.

My view is that most of the educated masses in Malaysia will leave in droves. Only the truly committed (and also a little insane) that will stay to attempt to transform Malaysia. Would they succeed? I hope they do, but I may not staying around to find out...

  13. Da Maniac Said,

Ltd: You're not being a coward for moving away. :D

  14. Unknown Said,

Running away will not solve the problem.

Like my parents are very optimistic that things will change in Malaysia. Just that maybe it will take one more generation. :)

Every country will have their own fair share of problems.
