We Are Dead!

Posted by Simon Templar On Wednesday, May 05, 2010

Wow! We are going to have a nuclear plant.

If we were still in school, this will be 'like super cool, man!'. It's 'like so futuristic'. And so advance.

But we are no longer in school. And we know the ugly truth about Malaysia. Verdict: We Are Dead!

We are talking about the very realistic Malaysia that you and me know. The Malaysia that cannot even efficiently maintain the mini Tenaga sub-stations at our housing areas. We are talking about the Malaysia who cannot provide clean water to the people even when easy and efficient technology is in use. The Malaysia who cannot even dispose off our garbage in a manner that is not harmful to the environment. The Malaysia who even with computers and technology assistance cannot get trains to arrive and depart on time.

And yet we are going to have a matha-farking nuclear plant!

I hope that the plant is built far away. Maybe Sabah or Sarawak. Sorry folks, I need the South China Sea to act as a barrier.

Hmmm... Maybe they can build it in Sabah near the coal-fired plant. If we are talking about environmental damage and loss of human life, we might as well reduce the area and bring down the headcount. Better that than everyone dying, ain't it? (I was told that it is human nature to be selfish. I was also told that I can't beat the government.)

A nuclear plant? What the...?

What the hell to we need a nuclear plant for? We are a kuchi-rat country with 28 million jokers leaving in it. How much efficient energy do we consume? How desperate is our need for such enormous amount of energy? How many energy zapping factories do we have in this country? Dude, this is no Command & Conquer. This is real life death-threatening technology we are talking about. Plus, to be managed by some dumb-wits.

I tell you, this has all got to do with blardie money again. I think UMNO has gone too far this time. The thing with UMNO is they are getting extremely greedy. They are no longer satisfied with reaping money on the smaller scale by the millions and tens of millions per project. Everything nowadays has got to benefit them in terms of hundreds of millions or billions. But to put the life of every Malaysian at risk just to satisfy their lust for money?

Eh come on lah, stop fucking around with people's lives.

Even that they want to do it on a larger scale. Previously, the Malaysian government is happy killing the people (mostly Indians it would seem) on a small scale of a couple of thousand per year. Nowadays, they are talking about killing the mass population. What's with this apa nama UMNO? They got possessed by the Satan is it? Have they gone fucking nuts?

Allow me to frighten you a little with some Chernobyl stats. Did you know that the Chernobyl disaster released 400 times more radioactive material than the Hiroshima atomic bombing? Did you know that the contamination of the Chernobyl accident was felt up to more than 1,000 km away?

Let's put that to perspective. Peninsular Malaysia from the tip of Perlis to the bottom end of Johor is approximately 750 km. Simply put it, wherever this nuclear thing is built in Peninsular Malaysia, you are fried the moment a very likely Malaysian style disaster takes place at the said plant.

You may not die if you are further away. But you will quite likely die of some kind of cancer. That's if you don't already decide to kill yourself when your nervous system involuntarily makes you shout out Rosmah's name every exact 38 seconds. And of course, be assured that your newborn baby will look very adorable with her 3 eyes and a limb sticking out of her chest.

This is so brilliant. By the way, I wage 50 bucks that by the time the plant is in operation, 20,000 folks leaving nearby would have already have taugehs growing from the top of their heads. And another 1,000 may have grown a second dick. Failed tests. Drums of radioactives 'accidentally' falling into the nearby river. Accidents of trucks ferrying radioactive materials on their way to the plant. The usual stuffs. But of course you won't read these in the papers. Shhhhh...

Malaysia is so boleh! Damn I love this country.

Note to Singaporeans: Hey, you guys are pretty nearby I last checked.

  1. Tecky Said,

    Hahaha, good one!

But seriously, there are (apparently) highly-educated and well-informed people who do support nucular energy (see, I can even pronounce it like George W). Not that it matters to this government ... they will push it through regardless. [Note to self : Fix The Politics ...]

  2. Anonymous Said,

Come now, don't be so pessimistic. Nuclear technology has come a long way since Chernobyl. Growing nations like India & China are testing new Molten Salt Reactors (MSR) and Thorium based fuels that are at least an order of magnitude safer than those 60++ years old designs. Self contained Thorium reactors like http://www.thorium.tv/en/thorium_reactor/thorium_reactor_1.php are good for small remote towns/villages.

Unlike coal & gas power plants, nuclear output is constant. You'll be wasting energy by _NOT_ having your air-conditioner & lights on all day.

  3. Ravin Perumal Said,

Ja man(Bob Marley accent) if the government is so inclined in killing people just stick to Indians kill a few more thousands if they want to, not like the Black Indians care anyway. Repeat Hulu Selangor three times in case you have been hit by a police car and got your head knocked errr perhaps not these vehicles can't even overtake a Proton Iswara ask Aminulrasyid(RIP mate!!). Ah ha so the cops screwed up by thinking that the driver was an Indian. Hey hey don't forget all Indians are either professional thugs or drunks so it's open season year round. But back to nuclear power plants can someone please please tell the government that these things do not work too well with the "lebih kurang" mentality that most Malaysians live by. Hint hint Homer Simpson. I am starting a new business selling radiation fallout bunkers and expect to make a tidy profit soon. Call or send me an email, I'll even give you discounts if you buy two.

  4. Unknown Said,

I agree with Anon 10:08. Chernobyl-type nuclear power plants are only used in the former Soviet Union republics; and are considered to be inherently unsafe. These types of power plants are being phased out; as Chernobyl-type plants lack a containment dome (a crucial component of the multi-barrier containment method) - which in turn forms one of the three basic nuclear power plant safety approaches. The other two approaches are: design-in-depth and engineered safety features.
Besides that, all modern power plants have benefited from lessons learned; gained from earlier generations of nuclear plants built since the 50's.
Current power plants are of Generation III onwards, which are based greatly on safety features.

  5. Anonymous Said,

Hahahaha! We are talking about a country where new stadium can collapse, indoor sprinkler system in our stadium when it rains, and countless more. Guess we don't have the knowhow, or the technology to build those but will have the latest tech to build a nuclear plant. God help us all. Bakun will be turned into a giant fish pond i guess or better yet, use the water to cool the reactor (best place to build the plant?)!!!! Win win situation for everyone

  6. Anonymous Said,

    Anonymous 10:08 & Nuclear,

Where do you guys come from? We can have the best tech and facility in the world. But the politicians will have their RM2 dormant crony company with no expertise build and MAINTAIN that armageddon machine. Get it?

  7. Anonymous Said,

    Don't worry-lah.
All they want is money. After all the investment paid up and before the nuclear plant starts to function, they will "listen to the rakyat and stop the plan".

  8. Anonymous Said,

We'd most probably die sooner being shot by the police when backing out of our house for work in the morning than by radiation.

  9. Anonymous Said,

EVEN GOD CANNOT HELP MALAYSIA.This f******G UMNO PUTRA cannot even handle GST....they want to go nuclear. Dei POORAH!

  10. Anonymous Said,

  11. Anonymous Said,

What about our intelligent Defence top notches???

Buying submarines that cannot dive!!!!!! - what a joke!

How's that possible???...... Ketuanan, I guess!!

Simple logic and intelligence seems so scarce amongst our so called "leaders" nowadays,..... so, how can one ever be comfortable with more demanding issues like nuclear plants??

  12. Anonymous Said,

We already have a research nuclear reactor in Bangi since 1982.

  13. Nizam Mahmud Said,

I hope that the plant is built far away. Maybe Sabah or Sarawak.
    ----

Hey a**h*le, decisions are made in KL, why do we Sarawakians or Sabahans have to suffer from it?

Now I really hope UMNO would build a cheap, defective, ill designed Nuclear Reactor and it would explode so bad that Chernobyl would look like child's play.

And I pray it would wipe out selfish people like you and your entire family and entire generations. If there is one or two who survive, I pray that they are so mutated that it would be so hard just to recognize them as human being.

    Amen.

  14. Anonymous Said,

just build in sabah sarawak la, last time i checked they still live on trees, they need something high tech, not iphone, but idead or inuclear for them.

    1malaysia!!

  15. Anonymous Said,

Who the hell are Mr Templar? A wannabe?
    Why the hell Sabah?
Why not in the middle of KL?

    Songorib

  16. Nizam Mahmud Said,

just build in sabah sarawak la, last time i checked they still live on trees,
    -----

Another a**hol* from Peninsular whose brains needs mutation badly just so he'll be able to think.

One ill built, defective and soon-to-explode nuclear reactor right in the middle of Peninsular Malaysia should do the trick.

Many Sarawakians and Sabahans prayed daily that you guys should kill each other over race and religion. God answered our prayer with a better option - a soon-to-explode nuclear reactor right in the middle of West Malaysia.

    I love God!

  17. Anonymous Said,

    apa sudah jadi?

  18. Anonymous Said,

Please build it in lepeh land, stay far far far away from our beloved Sabah & Sarawak. Hope your neighbours do the right thing and bomb the living shit out of your reactor ala Israel bombing Iraq's. But don't worry lah malaya, you'll survive the fallout since lepehs are been scientifically proven to survive high doses of radiation.

  19. Jae Senn Said,

Bro, please get acquainted with Gen-4 nuclear reactors before you subscribe to fear-mongering from anti-nuke groups like the one led by Dr McCoy who obviously knows zero about nuclear reactors and nuclear energy.

You know what's good about nuclear energy? Cheap and abundant electricity with zero carbon emissions and low environmental footprint, especially with technologies such as LFTR which is self-regulating with plenty of passive safety mechanisms. A meltdown is impossible with a LFTR reactor and the fuel source is so abundant in the earth's crust (radioactive thorium, a major source of natural background radiation).

The reactor by-product will decay to safe levels in 300 years and can be buried safely. Out of 1 ton of thorium fuel which is good for 1GW per year, over 70% is "burned up" in the reactor while around 30% is the "waste", which, for its density, can be compressed into a metallic sphere that's a few feet in diameter and easy to store/dispose.

What's more, LFTR reactors do not breed weapons-grade material and none of the materials in its fuel cycle can be proliferated as weapons-grade nuclear materials.

We have come a long, long, long way since the 1950s but somehow the anti-nuke lobby always harps on 1950s technologies and fallacies.

  20. Anonymous Said,

    simon templar...
you m****rf*****g bigot!kiss your mother with that mouth!i hope you rot in hell!you think you're holier than sabahan and sarawakian!you have no shame in front of God.you brainless maggot trying to talk politic.i'd be ashamed to support the opposition with people like you in our midst.rpk wannabe!!you better just blog about paris hilton la stupid!

  21. There are stupid people in this world. And then there are idiots. Further down the road, you have amoebas who do not understand what they read and yet get emotional.

Nizam Mahmud & Anonymous 18.53, when I mentioned that the nuclear plant should be built in East Malaysia, read between the lines. I am fighting for you people there and was whacking the government sarcastically on how they ill treat East Malaysians.

No need to get emotional. Seek to understand what you read. Have you not been taught to shut the fuck up when you know jack shit what is infront of you?

When you curse my mother and my family, you crossed the line.

It is people like you that is why Sabah is the poorest state in Malaysia. Lacking upstairs in what it matters most but full of thuggish behaviour with a short fuse of nothingness. Look into the mirror and you see UMNO.

We West Malaysians are fighting hard for change and we got back Selangor, Penang, Perak (for a moment), Kedah and Kelantan. What have you done apart from ranting and cursing?

Get the fuck out of my blog. You are not fucking welcome here.

    Fuck off!

  22. Anonymous Said,

    Simon Templer
I love how you write and the awareness you brought into this nuclear plant issue.

  23. Lee Wee Tak Said,

i beg to differ from Anom 1008 and Nuclear

given the maintenance culture in Malaysia, I do not think M'sia deserve/responsible enough to have anything to do with nuclear

    not even an iota

we are worse than Homer Simpson when come to looking after a nuclear plant

the reason behind this proposal is crystal clear, another mega project for $$$$ to row out, all this while Najib administration wanna talk about reducing deficit, widening tax base etc....

hardly we hear about controlling cost and cutting expenditure..

  24. Anonymous Said,

Thorium reactor may be newer and "safer" but it is experimental and no one know for sure how safe it is.

To say that it is cheaper than other sources of energy such as solar, biodiesel etc. is to look at nuclear cost through a narrow tunnel. It takes energy to produce and prepare the fuel and there is a long term cost to storing and keeping the radioactive material safe.

In other countries radioactive waste had to be treated and prepared for storage using very stringent measures and this add to the cost but in malaysia lynas was ALLOWED to dilute and dispose of the radioactive waste as fertiliser and gypsum board. I dugged up an old report and that was the reason why lynas shipped out of western australia to kuantan - the cost of disposal in australia. Not lack of water.

  25. Anonymous Said,

we have stadium that collapsed in one year.
we have office that collapsed just before finish building it.
we have bridge that collapsed when the kids were crossing the river.
we have highway that crack here and there.
we have parliment that keep leaking from time to time.
we have one of the largest court in asia but lack of parking space.
we have big jet engines that missing.
we have submarine that can not dive.
we have helicopters that have self destroyed mode.
we have finished Ipoh and KL double trak rail but forget to buy the locomotifs.
we have LRTs lines that are "Linked" but still need to cross a busy road to get to other line.
we have somebody imigation record erased but nobody care.

    and more and more......

DO you want to have a nuclear power plant???

WELL, Every Malaysian have rights to decide. Cast you vote in comming election before it is too late.

  26. Jae Senn Said,

Anonymouse 00:03, please read your sentence again. "No one know for sure how safe it is". Looks like you haven't read up anything on liquid fluoride thorium reactors. Otherwise this statement will not arise.

LFTR is very, very different from conventional HEU and LEU nuclear reactors. There's not much fuel treatment like breeding and refining fissile uranium. The challenge might be to remove the protactinium from the bred U-233 in the reactor.

As for storing and keeping the fuel, again, read up on LFTR and see how this statement doesn't apply.

Conventional radioactive waste has to be treated because they have a half-life of over 10,000 years, thanks to using uranium as fuel. This doesn't apply to molten salt reactors like LFTR.

Thorium reactors are cheaper to build (low pressure circuits throughout the reactor due to the higher thermodynamic efficiency of using a molten salt cycle), cheaper to maintain (molten fluoride salt dissolved thorium is self-regulating) and much safer to use.

Passive melt plugs can be used to contain a runaway reaction. Furthermore, the salt can be drained away to stop the reactor anytime, and it can be molten and pumped back into the reactor to restart it, without the radioactive hazards associated with conventional reactors. It can even be refueled on the fly, and its fuel can be replaced on the fly as well. These are all impossible with LEU and HEU reactors.

Again, people, please don't be alarmists. Be informed intelligent human beings rather than fear-mongering fear-subscribing alarmists. Knowledge is power after all.

  27. Anonymous Said,

You are talking about a country where bus drivers kill passengers on a regular basis on a straight highway and where the government can’t even build a double track narrow gauge rail track from KL to Ipoh properly...and they want to build a nuclear plant? It's obvious isn’t it...all this coming after UMNO APCO's visit to US. Must buy something from US to make Najib bte Altantunya look great in Obama's eyes maaaa.....what's a few million Malaysian lives....

  28. Anonymous Said,

Nice piece Simon Templar. Really funny writting. Are we so uptight we can't take a joke these days.

However, I hope the project becomes terbengkalai. This time around if anything bad happens, don't think even the Star, NST, Berita Harian or Utusan will be around to blame it on the opposition. :D

    brother...
you know the joke about a christian who converts to judaism so that he could tell jewish jokes.well thats not so funny...

in your case ,mr simon templar, just so because you fight for people of sabah and sarawak doesnt mean you can say that about us.you mean the life of people in sabah and sarawak is of lesser value than yours?"bomb them not me."what is that...?that is AN INSULT no matter in what way i read it.between the line or not..we dont need anybody who think they're holier than us to fight for us.we need someone who think they're equal to us.because human beings are born equal.don't you agree?if you don't agree with that, then you are a hypocrite trying to talk about equality.that's no less than a bigot.
if you wonder why parties from peninsular never got a foothold in sabah and sarawak, then you dont need to look further than yourself.you guys think you're holier than us and you think we cant see past that.you guys think we're too stupid to think for ourselves.you come here with your smug arrogance,"let's fight for these lesser lives,ow...pity them...they're so helpless..." ...and before you know it you'll be cursing at them,"what is it with you people!!?we come to try and help you guys, and you chase us away.."
you should apologise to your east malaysian readers mr simon templar.we can take jokes and i think we're funnnier than you people but that's a joke that borders on insult.
anyways, dont flatter yourself,i wouldnt read this article if it's not posted in malaysia today.
watch an episode of seinfeld about the dentist who converts to judaism and start telling jewish jokes.now, that's what i call funny.
    cheers brother.

  30. Anonymous Said,

What's with the East Malaysians being so smug about themselves? Look, if you guys are politically astute, East Malaysia wouldn't have handed such an easy victory to BN. Thanks to you guys, the whole of Malaysia is still being screwed in the ass.

Make a change and live for the future, not the present. Otherwise most of us will continue considering East Malaysia to be the poorer cousin of West Malaysia that happens to be not-to-bright as well.

Oh ya, and also if you guys can't pick up sarcasm or "add 120%" statements related to the current political zeitgeist, please don't blow your tops 'cause you guys come off looking silly.

  31. ruyom Said,

For Royal Professor Ungku Aziz to say that there was no social contract between the founding fathers of our nation, this has put a nail in the coffin on those ultra-malays who still see Ketuanan Melayu as a cornerstone for race relationships in this country.

While other matured and well-developed nations have put to rest the 'master and slave' relationship among the various races, it baffles the mind of thinking people why should such policy still remain relevant in this 21st century here in Malaysia. We might call our British colonial masters 'Sir' or 'Tuan' in the early days but after half-a-century of independence, don't you think that such thinking is out of date?

Malay rights have been ensconced in the federal constitution and cannot be taken away unless by a two-thirds majority in parliament subject to the malay rulers approval. No one doubts that in the early days, the bumis especially the malays, needed affirmative actions to take them out of their cycle of poverty to be on par with other races, especially the Chinese.

But the NEP has outlived it purpose and it should be replaced with a new policy which will eradicate poverty regardless of creed and race.

The playing field should be more even and let the best among the best compete among themselves in order for our nation to progress in the future. Why should rich malays with their 'right political connections' obtain a big slice of the economic cake while the poor people are denied such opportunities to get them out of their cycle of poverty?

To be a respected race, the malays must discard the notion that the government will always have to provide them with opportunities in studies and business as if it was their birth right. The malays should be able to compete with the other races on an equal footing and work hard to improve their lot rather than expecting handouts from the government.

Ungku Aziz, a towering malay whose intellectual thinking is way ahead of his time, has opened a Pandora Box's with his outright statement that there is no written 'social contract' among the various races prior to independence. Umno politicians will now cry foul about his daring statement as they will always use the Ketuanan Melayu bogey to win the hearts and minds of the malays to support their cause. .

But the malays cannot be in a denial mode anymore. We must accept the fact that in the brave new world that we live in where people and capital move to places where no restrictions are imposed, the old way of doing business by having quota systems will drive capital away from our country and the people will suffer in the end if business opportunities pass our shores.

The malays should look at their Singapore brethren who are no less the worse although unlike their Malaysian cousins, they does not have any NEP policy to get a leg up in society. There is no short cut for success unless you work hard for it.

  32. San Said,

Then let me re-quote Lee Kuan Yew:

Singaporean politician Lee Kuan Yew of the PAP, who publicly questioned the need for Article 153 in parliament, and called for a "Malaysian Malaysia".

In a speech, Lee Kuan Yew bemoaned what would later be described as the Malaysia social contract:

"According to history, malays began to migrate to Malaysia in noticeable numbers only about 700 years ago. Of the 39% malays in Malaysia today, about one-third are comparatively new immigrants like the secretary-general of Umno, Dato Syed Jaafar, who came to Malaya from Indonesia just before the war at the age of more than thirty. Therefore it is wrong and illogical for a particular racial group to think that they are more justified to be called Malaysians and that the others can become Malaysians only through their favour."

Eventually, and Singapore became an independent nation in 1965, with Lee Kuan Yew as its first prime minister.

  33. yuking Said,

When will Malaysians, especially the non-malays come to their senses and stop believing the UMNO racist politicians in whatever they say, especially on trying to change and all that jazz?

Never in a million years will those UMNO racist malays ever change - they are a disgrace to their own race and a sorry case for a human being.

Transparency, integrity, dignity?……….give me a break, the UMNO racist morons don't even know how to spell the words, let alone understand what they mean.

Obviously Singapore is also advancing much faster than Malaysia who is losing its best talents to Singapore. Malaysia's loss is Singapore's gain. In the end, as the Malaysia nation goes down the drain, it is the ordinary malays who suffer the most.

It is obviously time for the ordinary malays to get rid of the Umno thugs who is in reality robbing them of the kind of prosperity their Singaporean cousins are having.

  37. aston Said,

It is a sad story for both Sabah and Sarawak for joining Malaysia. Just look at Brunei and Singapore to see the answer.

Sabah and Sarawak is being raped by Malaya till dry, all the oil and timber from the two states is being used to finance all the failed projects and also to feed all the Umno zealots.

Ask the Iban and Kandazan, they are being marginalized. Now the government even want to make the country into an Islamic state, did Sabah and Sarawak agree to join an Islamic state in the first place?

September 16 is a day for mourning, a day of shame for Malaysia.

100% agree with aston. Sabah and Sarawak should secede from Malaysia. Sabah and Sarawak should become independent states, and Sabah can become the Republic of North Borneo, while Sarawak can be the Republic of West Borneo or Northwest Borneo or something. The oil money can be used 100% by Sabah and Sarawak instead of being stolen by BN to be used for Peninsular Malaysia.
